If your device supports it, you can use biometrics to log in, instead of a password and security code. We support: fingerprint, face and iris unlock on Android devices that meet Google’s security settings, and Touch ID & Face ID on Apple devices.
Setting up
- Log in to the NHS App using your email, password and security code (if requested).
- Go to More
- Select Account and settings
- For Android select Fingerprint, face or iris, or for Apple select Touch ID or Face ID.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
The next time you log in, you'll be asked to touch the fingerprint sensor or look at the device instead of entering your email, password and security code.
If you're using an Android device and your fingerprint, face or iris is not recognised, try logging in with a different type of biometrics, if your device supports it. For example, try logging in using your fingerprint if your face is not recognised.
If you cannot use biometrics, log in using your NHS account email, password and security code instead.
Problems setting up on Apple devices
Apple have their own guides on how to set up Face ID or Touch ID:
Use Face ID on your iPhone or iPad Pro – Apple Support (UK)
Use Touch ID on iPhone and iPad – Apple Support (UK)
Problems setting up on Android devices
The Android operating system is on many different types of smartphones and tablets. The help you need can vary slightly, depending on the smartphone or tablet you use. We'd advise searching online for device-specific guidance.
